For the 33rd time, international scientists meet at the Umbrella Symposium, an international platform crated by the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum Jülich, between May 27th and May 29th, to discuss joint future projects while exchanging the latest developments on a central theme. This year in Jülich, the symposium places major emphasis on “Energy Conversion and Energy Storage” while also providing information on the latest developments for instance on „Porous Electrospun Nanofibers as a Substrate Platform“ (Prof. Gideon S. Grader, Technion – Israel Institute of Technology) or „Lifetime of Wind Turbine Drive Trains“ (Prof. Jacobs, MSE/RWTH Aachen University)”. As part of the symposium, distinguished scientists receive the Umbrella Award. Once more, the MSE congratulates all awardees and is especially happy for Dipl.-Ing. Francisco Gutierrez Guzman who shared his findings on „Early Failure of Roller Bearings in Wind Turbine Gearboxes“ with an international audience.

As a research assistant, Mr. Guzman has been part of the research group Bearing Technology at the MSE since April 2014; his research focuses on the analysis of damage mechanisms in roller bearings; moreover, he serves as head of the MSE research group “Roller Bearings and Freewheels” and the research task group “Drivetrain and Generators” which he founded in 2017 within the European Energy Alliance (EERA).
