Research project "MoVerHu" launched

Within the last two years, certification standards for helicopter propulsion systems have changed significantly, particularly in the area of the main gearbox. This mainly concerns the dry-running properties, as well as in particular the verification of the lifetime of rolling bearings and their early detection of damage.

The basis for a reliable evaluation of the drive train's condition is provided by a deeper understanding of the wear mechanisms occurring in the individual transmission components. Since the components in the transmission represent a functional unit, the evaluation and description of the wear processes must be carried out in the system context. Therefore, within MoVerHu (Model-based wear prediction of helicopter gearboxes) an innovative model-based prediction of maintenance intervals based on the wear progress of different gearbox components is performed.

We are looking forward to collaborating with Airbus Helicopters, ZF Luftfahrttechnik, the Technical University of Darmstadt, the Technical University of Braunschweig, the German Aerospace Center and the Technical University of Munich.
