The MSE test center is located on the Melaten campus of RWTH Aachen University and sits directly by the test track of the Institute for Automotive Engineering (IKA).
The first phase of construction was completed in 2010. It has a surface area of 1,000 square meters and is used to investigate vehicles, drivetrains and assemblies on a five-motor dynamometer with a power of 1 MW.
A second construction stage from the end of 2012 until spring 2014 extended the experimental hall by a further gross floor area of 1,000 square meters. This houses the oil laboratory, additional tribological test beds as well as the servo-hydraulic test facility in which several servo hydraulic test beds in different power classes can be operated.
