Abstract
This thesis presents a procedure for the model-based formalisation of development knowledge for the configuration of product structures in the quotation process. The necessity of this approach is derived from the analysis of existing variant management approaches and the characteristics of functionally integral, customised products. The underlying solution is based on the consistent application of the system theory and model-based systems engineering. This is realised in the decomposition of the component level of product structures, resulting in abstract product components that represent the company’s development knowledge. The developed structure resembles reference product structures and enables the reuse of knowledge despite customer individuality at the component level. Likewise, this level enables the use of known configuration methods. The approach of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) integrates development knowledge from different departments so that a technical and economic validation can take place at an early stage in the quotation process. The model-based knowledge base is built up on the basis of an application example and applied exemplarily for a customer-specific product configuration.
