Detrimental Roller Bearing Slippage II
Thermal material damage caused by detrimental roller bearing slippage
Result
- Evaluation of the sensitivity of slip behavior toward operating parameters: load and rotation speed gradient, load direction, and system temperature
- Damage reproduction: the time-synchronous initiation of speed and load ramps on a heavily cooled system led to tempering damage – in the case of radial loads above the minimum load
Motivation
The occurrence of tempering damage can be determined in practice on the inner rings of large-sized cylindrical roller bearings that are used under dynamic operating conditions. Albeit the exact boundary conditions leading to this type of damage remain unclear.
Research objectives
The objective of this project was to identify operating conditions under which tempering may occur on radial cylindrical roller bearings. The partial objectives of the project were therefore as follows:
- Assessment of the impact of relevant operating parameters on the kinematic behavior and on the risk of tempering on radial cylindrical roller bearings
- Generation of tempering damage on radial cylindrical roller bearings
