mobilEM
Integrated energy supply modules for road-based electric mobility
Motivation
Novel vehicle drives use consumption-optimized functions that deploy a sequential shutdown of the internal combustion engine to save fuel and reduce emissions. Additional wear in the engine bearing is to be expected given an increase in engine starts from 30,000 to an estimated 300,000 start-stop operations. The wear arising in start-stop operation must therefore be considered in the development of future drive systems.
Research objectives
- Description of the wear behavior in start-stop operation
- Development of a simulation model for the prediction of wear
- Determination of relevant influencing factors for the resulting wear
- Application and evaluation of different wear models
