The Scientific Society of Product Development, WiGeP, promotes the close cooperation between science and industry; this approach aims at initiating product innovation in the automotive, electrical and medical field while ensuring novel products reach market maturity. More than 40 professors and 100 representatives of well-known German companies work together on attuning research and teaching to industrial requirements. This joint research approach includes innovations regarding machine elements and systems alongside the further development of existing methods and processes in the area of product development and virtual product development, too, all of which are geared to industrial application.
This September, WiGeP held its Autumn Conference in Dresden where scientists resumed planning their joint projects such as "In Situ Data Analysis“, "Model-Free Modeling", "Additive Manufacturing Technology" as well as "Life Cycle Engineering". The Institute for Machine Elements and Systems Engineering participates in tasks groups chaired by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Iris Gräßler, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Detmar Zimmer and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Vietor.
In 2020, Prof. Georg Jacobs (Institute for Machine Elements and Systems Engineering) and Prof. Christian Schindler (Institute of Rail Vehicles and Transport Systems) will be hosting WiGeP‘s spring conference at the RWTH Aachen University.
